Here in Canada it's the Victoria Day long weekend, named for Queen Victoria and intended to mark her birthday on May 24th often with fireworks. It's also known as the May 2-4 long weekend by those who celebrate by opening their cottages for the summer season and drinking cases (2-4s) of beer at the dock and around the campfire. For gardeners it's the first weekend considered safe to transplant annual bedding plants that aren't frost-hardy. That's how I observe the holiday :)

I did make a start on my Little Child's Sock, knitting the ribbed cuff and the patterned band, but I'll confess I'm dragging my feet a bit, mostly because I'd like to get the "Tshark Socks" off the needles first. Any charcoal grey yarn leftover there would fit in nicely with the scraps making up this sock! In the meantime my first bit of sock one is in the garden posing with the hanging baskets.

I've also been suffering from a terrible case of start-itis. Or perhaps starting-and-not-finishing-itis. Seems like I'm using the upcoming craft sale as an excuse to try out every cute little tchotchke pattern that catches my eye. Maybe I can find some time tomorrow to finish a few things? Or at least show enough self-control not to start anything new?!

This looks more tedious then normal...but awesome. Can't believe they plant that early. Heck here in Ohio, they say we're in danger of frost until after Mothers Day...which is after those dates.....and we're alot father south. Opening cabins, drinking, sounds fun. We ate on the deck after having our martini's on the deck last night...that's a first for the season. We've had drinks, but it hasn't been warm enough to have dinner out there.

I always put my garden in too early and loose something to a late frost...down here it's our memorial day (the last weekend in May)..FYI, I'm a transplanted Canadian...and tend to remember Canadian holidays more than the US..

Love the pattern of the new sock and hope you refrain from starting to many new things this week ! lol . My gardening consists of mowing lawns as green fingered I am not so this year I am not even going to try, a hard lesson to learn over the last few years. I'm sure the children will love the extra grass for games anyway. Enjoy your weekend.

I have a blanket to finish and then a shawl to get back to. But of course all I want to do is cast on something and ignore the others!

I'm with you on spending the weekend gardening, even with a bum knee. If I'd had a little more money - I would have done a lot more.

The sock is looking very cool - can't wait to see the finished project

That is a lovely sock :) I'm also a fan of the Blackthorn needles that are holding it (why yes, I have several pairs of those, why do you ask).

sometimes the only thing to do with starteritis is to cast on All The Things...

I love the way you described your holiday weekend. Different strokes for different folks! ;) The little sock is lovely, as usual!

I love how you always have socks on the needles! I hope to take my girls to Canada one day. My eldest has been talking about it this weekend b/c of this placemat of the world she uses.
