Work-in-Progress Wednesday

After a disastrous weekend of ripping out everything I knit, a couple of simple squares looked like the safest thing to attempt.  A few weeks ago I committed to knitting a couple of squares for a Barn Raising Quilt to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. It's a very easy pattern, and with very little effort I've knit the first in a variegated blue and made a good start on the second. If you're interested in the KAL there's more information here.

And after ripping out my first attempt at Helgi's Mitts, I've made a new start now using periwinkle blue for the main colour and royal purple for the contrast colour. The resulting pattern in the knitted fabric is much more subtle than it would be if knit in black and white as suggested by the pattern, but I prefer it. Besides, I'm determined to knit from stash yarns (and preferably from superwash baby yarn) so my colour choices are limited by what I have on hand. What do you think? Are the colours okay? Because if these don't work, the next plan would see white paired with the periwinkle blue.

There are a couple more wips scattered around my dining room. After ripping back on Saturday, Merike's Gloves remain in time-out until I feel a little less defeated by them. My third dishcloth cotton shelf liner is also awaiting my attention; I'll get back to that once I clean up some of these other projects.

It's Wednesday, so you know what to do! Go, check out all the links at Tami's Amis.

The purple is very pretty, but I think the white would stand out more.

I really like the purple and blue, but I often prefer subtle contrast. The white would probably be a higher contrast to the blue, and would look equally lovely, but my personal preference is probably the purple... Hope that helps ;)

I quite like the combination - it's subtle - but there's nothing wrong with that!

I like the subtle contrast of the tone-on-tone. But, yes, white would stand out more.

Sometime ripping and frogging are just inevitable... and really, it's better just to get it over with. (Can you tell what I spent the first half of the week doing?)

I love the blue and purple too... It's really pretty.

Boo to having rip out lots of knitting - I started the Feb Lady Sweater early this week, and had to rip it all out too, so can sympathise!

Ugh. I hate those days when nothing I knit feels right. Hopefully, you're next project will propel you through.

I like the blue/purple combination. I always think of Periwinkle as a little bit blue, a little bit purple - captured perfectly in your mitens. Main thing is the contrast is enough to see the pattern. Looks great. No more ripping out!

Your squares look great not tried knitting them that way, something else to add to my list!

Good colourway on your mitts too

I quite like the colours you have chosen, and I think subtlety is an art!

The subtle contrast of the purple and blue is beautiful, I love it. Recognizable, a day that you feel nothing is nice enough, I hope you now are over that bump:(

I love the colors choices for the mittens! isn't it funny---i must have looked through knitting in estonia a gazillion times, and overlooked this pattern--your mittens are inspiring me to cast on!!!

I hear you on the ripping. I forgot to do buttonholes on a baby kimono, so ripping back for that!. At least it was only 8 rows of garter. Love the color combo!

I think the purple looks fine. The white would look great too though :) Go with your instincts, you want to enjoy knitting them.
