Calibrachoa and Bacopa in this year's baskets |
Lots going on around here these days, knitting and otherwise. In just over a week Gavin goes in for Total Hip Replacement so we're trying to get all the chores done before things come to a screeching halt. At the hospital they asked if he had anyone to help him at home. "My wife," he replied, "as long as I don't piss her off." LOL. According to the literature sent home in his pre-admission package he should not plan to drive, vacuum, garden, mow the lawn or do anything strenuous for weeks and months after. Uh oh ... I guess I'd better get reacquainted with the vacuum cleaner :(
On the bottom of the pile is my (w)rapped pullover - the knitting's done, now I have to do the seams and the neck band. If I have a chance I might get started on that this morning. Typically I spend more time dreading finishing than it actually takes to do it, so I'm determined not to procrastinate. Besides, wouldn't it be nice to finish it in time to show Friday?
In the top right corner is my Road to Oslo boot sock. It's been put aside for the last couple of days in favour of the sock in the foreground. That's Hermoine's Everyday Sock; I've seen it and admired it on so many other blogs that I just had to make a pair myself! The yarn is Regia Classic 4-ply in a printed colourway called "Lollipop" - little spots of green, blue and yellow randomly pop up as you knit. I'm not entirely sure how I feel about it yet. Initially I thought the spots might be too distracting for a subtle textured pattern like this, but now that I've got a few inches knit, I think it'll be okay.
There's lots going on all around the craft blogosphere. Check out the links at Tami's Amis to see for yourself!

All the projects are coming along nicely. Sorry to hear your hubby has to have a hip replacement. Did he fall or is this Arthur rearing it's head? Rehab is key in recovery. My co-workers mother who is 90+ had one and was rollin along fabulously after just a couple of weeks. Best of luck to you all.
You know crazy thing about those needles, I actually (for a change) bought the needles specifically for that project. The package say 40, but I swear when I measure them...they don't seem like 40 to me. Do they include the needles when they measure and not just the cord? I always thought it was just the cord.
I had a hip replacement about 13 years ago---it will be well worth the few weeks of inactivity!!! (Mine was the old-fashioned kind---hope he's able to have the minimally invasive one; I have a friend who was out and about and walking up stairs in less than a week!!!)
It's definitely sock knitting weather....love yours!!!
I hope all goes well with the hip replacement! Those socks are coming along nicely. I just got my DPN and sock yarn delivered this week, so hopefully this weekend I'll have some time to learn how to use them.
I send good thoughts for the surgery! I can't wait to see that pullover! Finish, finish, finish! (Cheering section!)
My best to you and Gavin as he goes for surgery.
Hope your reacquaintance with the vacuum cleaner doesn't interrupt your knitting time. :P
My grandpa had a full hip replacement about six years ago and he didn't follow the doctor's orders and his recovery time suffered greatly for it.
He did listen about not mowing the lawn or vacuuming or climbing up the ladder onto the roof or gardening....but he refused to stop crossing his legs.
Seriously, that was it.
As for the knitting.........yes, knitting is lovely :)
I think the yarn and pattern get along very well.
Good luck to Gavin. My BIL had his done a couple of years ago and is very happy with it.
Wowzers! Hip replacement at such a young age? Good luck to him and you!
Loved his comment.
Hope all goes well with the surgery!
Your progress looks great- I love the variety! (I keep hearing about these Hermione socks, but I don't know if I could overcome my phobia to make them)
I always dread the sewing up and picking up stitches. For me it is like going to the dentist, you just have to get it over with! Good luck to your hubby on his surgery, he'll be stir crazy by the end and you'll be glad to hand the vacuuming over to him!
I think you can finish that vest by friday!
I hope the surgery goes well! Everything is looking great :)
Hope all goes well with the surgery. I love that white and blue yarn you are using for the socks!
Hope all goes well with the surgery and he has a speedy recovery.
Chiming in the hip replacement stories. . .my dad had one 6 years ago and is doing great! He was in a lot of pain before it so he's really glad to have done it. His advice: do everything the physical therapist (physiotherapy) says! He's also still doing some of the exercises :) Also love the blue and white sock yarn. Hope the surgery goes well!
Hehe, hopefully he doesn't piss you off :). I'm sending him my best wishes for a speedy recovery.
I like the Hermoine socks - the yarn looks really fun.
