WIP Wednesday

Today's progress for the most part takes the form of frogging. Which is progress of a sort, since it often takes a lot of thought and a lot of work to finally commit to this plan of action.

With my silk mawatas I cast on Sleekit Mitts ... and then ripped out after completing the lace border. Time to admit to myself that my hands are not a woman's small to medium that the pattern is said to fit. That first mitt was knitting up impossibly small. The mawatas are in time-out until an appropriate pattern suggests itself to me.

The shell pink cloud cotton had been knit up into a Hey Teach sweater for my sister a couple of years ago. But how is that I didn't know that my sister HATES pink? I only found that out days before Christmas when she told me that she held her nose and bought a pink sweater for my niece. Oh dear. It's hung sad and unloved in my closet for a couple of years, but starting today that yarn is going to be repurposed into this. At least I hope so.

The only WIP actually behaving is the pair of Canal du Midi socks for my year of projects. The second sock is knitting up quickly and beautifully; thank goodness for that! Do check out the list at Tami's Amis to find a lot more progress and (hopefully) a lot less ripping out.

Frogging does take some mental preparation, doesn't it?! Could you perhaps overdye the pink sweater so that it would be a colour your sister likes - then you'd have a ready made Christmas present?!

You got to know when to hold em, know when to frog em. OK, so I took some license with the words there. Love that blanket pattern.

*sigh* I know what you mean about frogging taking some prep. It's always a tough decision, but I've found that it's always the RIGHT one!

I definitely think frogging can be a big WIP. I tend to save my needs-to-be-frogged stuff up for awhile and then take a (sad) day to do it all and figure out what I'm doing with each piece / set of yarn.

Frogging can be a pain. I am good at it though ;)

okay, i just queued the swirling fans pattern despite promising myself i'm done with afghans for awhile. it's so pretty! I did wonder if you could dye the sweater though - is it 100% wool?

Frogging can be very satisfying -- think of it as uncluttering the house by repurposing the yarn.

Sometimes the most liberating thing can be the resolve to frog something that isn't working.
I tend to avoid it at all costs, so when I do, it's a big deal. :p

I agree with pinkundine about overdyeing the sweater! Barring that, I hope its repurposing brings you happiness! :)

Hopefully your ripping out is over for the time being. Good luck with the sock!

Sorry about the frogging. That green yarn looks lovely!

Sometime frogging can be just as productive and satisfying as completing a project. You get to have new yarn to make something spectacular with.

The silk mawatas are gorgeous! I hope you can find something worthy of them soon. Good luck with your frogging - I have to psych myself up for it too!

Too bad about the pink sweater - I think the colour is lovely!
I need to go through my knitting "corner" and start frogging

I find I'm often frogging when the yarn just doesn't go with the project the way I thought it would.

I am a rubbish frogger! I just end up taking the whole thing to pieces! I try and avoid it when I can! But its definitely a wip!
