Year of Projects - New England 01

Knitting on the Road: Canada • Canal du Midi • Conwy • Dalarna • Denmark • Friday Harbor • Hiiumaa • Huron Mountain • New England • The Road to Oslo • Santa Fe • Spey Valley • Christmas in Tallinn • Traveler's Stockings • Uinta Cabin • Unst • Whitby

Each and every time I look at the sock on my needles I'm amazed by the yarn. Based on what I saw in the skein I had expected a more stripey effect, and to be honest I thought this "peeps" colourway would be too much for this complicated lace pattern. I really did think I'd be ripping out and starting over in a solid colour yarn. And I'm very relieved and excited as to how well this is working out!

That's not to say that I haven't ripped out twice, but that's got to do with my own problems with reading and following charts. I laughed out loud yesterday when I reread the introduction to these socks in the book Knitting on the Road. Nancy Bush remarks "You may have to watch the chart while knitting these socks, especially while working the center diamond, but the results are well worth the effort." She's absolutely right, I should have been watching the chart more closely. All's well that ends well however; it looks like I've got the pattern down now that I'm into the third repeat.

This weekend is a long weekend for us Ontarians; on Monday we celebrate Family Day. My sister is picking me up to drive out to my brother's family for lunch - sounds like a couple of bonus hours of knitting time for me. With any luck I should be able to finish the leg and turn the heel before my work week starts.

What a pretty pattern and you are right, it is lovely with that color yarn.

Have a good Family Day. Here is the U.S. it is President's Day, but DH doesn't have off. So really .... it's just another ordinary day minus mail service.

Funnily enough, this weekend is a "long" one for us, too, as tomorrow is President's Day. Some schools and businesses are closed while others are not. Oh well...

I hope your long weekend is lovely and the socks look fun :)

Those are going to be stunning when the are finished. Charts can be tricky that way can't they?

I've not heard of Family Day, can you tell us about it? Hope it's fun and you enjoy yourself. LOVE the socks, they look soooooooooo pretty, but sooooooooo very difficult.

I think those are my favorite socks so far!
What an interesting holiday--I have never heard of it...and lucky you to get someone else to drive! My sister and I went to meet my mom yesterday up in her neck of the woods and because sister's care is having problems I was the lucky one to drive--but I hate driving on freeways in the rain and wind. Next time she is driving and I am knitting!

I really love the look of the New England socks and that colourway is gorgeous, I think these may be my favourite pair that you've knit to date. :)

It's so nice when you like a yarn more and more as you work a project.

Orange sherbet is what I see. Maybe my monitor needs to be tweaked? LOL. Happy Knitting and Happy Family Day.

How do people manage to knit in the car, makes me want to be sick just thinking of it.

The colours in your new sock seem very subtle, I do love pink, my very favourite.

Enjoy your celebrations!

Pretty yarn; it shows off the stitch pattern so well! Great pattern as well and I smiled at your thoughts on the process b/c for myself, I know when I have a lace pattern, I really have to concentrate otherwise I'll be ripping back for sure.
