Work in Progress and Wool-Eater Wednesday

Last weekend I found myself cutting through a WalMart in Mississauga to make my way from the parking garage to the mall when I found it - the royal blue Red Heart SuperSaver yarn that I needed to continue with my Wool-Eater blanket. Hurray! I've finished that round and added the dark blue colour as well. From start to finish the last round, which is the 17th colour comprised of 68 stitch clusters including the corners, took 126 grams or 265 yards of yarn. Wow! That's some wool-eating! To this point the blanket now measures 48" x 48". I have enough yarn ... I think, maybe, fingers crossed, just enough, barely... to complete one more round in purple but then that's it, it's done. Or is it?

I've been thinking about adding pompoms to the tip of each diamond shaped cluster of stitches. It could be a nice finishing touch, I'm thinking. But what kind of pompoms?

  • One colour (dark red) all around?
  • Different single coloured pompoms all around?
  • Multicoloured pompoms all around?
  • Or is the whole idea of pompoms over the top?

What do you think? Please leave a comment to let me know which way you think I should go with this.

All those bright colours of the blanket are in stark contrast to these grey Spey Valley socks. There's been good progress with them as well, with just a couple more hours of knitting to finish the foot and toe of the second sock. Switching to larger needles was just the ticket! Just as well, since I was quickly running out of ideas as to how to make this pattern work with that yarn for those feet.

Personally I wouldn't go with pom poms all the way around, it's such a fab colourful blanket that I think it would be a bit much (or it could be wonderful of course!)

I can picture it with fluffy, oversized tassels on each corner though!

Personally, I think the poms are too much for the blanket. It's already really colorful and I think adding the poms might make it...just busier than it needs to be.

I think you can leave them off.

Unless you're really bent on the idea of adding them. Then I've got nothing.

All the pictures I've seen of this blanket leave the edging as is...and I think it's lovely :)

I think all-over pompoms might be too much- maybe just multicolored ones on each corner?

I like your progress, and I'm glad you found your yarn! The blanket looks great!

I'm thinking no pom-poms --- to me the blanket is beautiful just the way it is.

What a cheerful blanket. You might be gilding the lilly with pom poms. But what the heck, put a few on to see what it would look like and then make your decision.

I wouldn't bother with pompoms. They would seem to just get in the way or possibly pulled off. Yeah for quick socks!

Thanks

I'm with the majority. That blanket is super awesome on it's own already and I vote for no pompoms.

Are you having fun making your blanket? It's quite a popular pattern recently, isn't it? I wouldn't add pom poms since the blanket is so colorful, however you should go with your own taste for this beautiful project.

Oh my goodness I LOVE your blanket. If it ever needs a loving home, I'm here for it. I'm not a huge fan of pom poms, so I can't help you there.

That blanket is so gorgeous. I'm glad you found the yarn you needed. I'm not a fan of pompoms. I love the blanket without them. Bet you're pleased you beat the problem you had with the socks.

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! I dont think I would edge it at all, but if I had to it would be solid pom poms

I love this blanket. I'm also thinking no edging or pom-poms, but I think I would probably do some and try it just to see (cause that is how I usually torture myself). :-)

I am so loving your Wool-Eater. I am so on the fence about joining in the CAL - doesn't feel right while I still have another blanket unfinished. But every time you post your progress, I reconsider!
