Year of Projects 2: Meida's Mittens 01

Folk Knitting in Estonia: Aino's Gloves • Anu's Christmas Gloves • Anu's Mittens • Anu's Stockings • Avo's Mittens • Ellen's Stockings • Helgi's Mittens • Hilja's Mittens • Ilmar's Socks • Juta's Stockings • Kalev's Mittens • Kristi's Mittens • Laila's Socks • Landra's Gloves • Liidia's Gloves • Liivi's Stockings • Maarja's Socks • Maimu's Mittens • Marko's Mittens • Meida's Mittens • Merike's Gloves • Rita's Stockings • Sander's Mittens • Tiit's Socks • Ulla's Gloves • Virve's Stockings

No matter how closely you peer at the pattern photo for these mitts, I daresay you can't see the difference between the dark blue and the dark green that Nancy Bush used in the colourwork cuff. As a result the corrugated ribbing disappears, as do a lot of the details in the chart.

Bet you have no trouble seeing all the colours with my choices! My colours are really bright ... sugary candy colours on a field of chocolate brown. Normally I wouldn't be comfortable with that much colour but since the rest of the mitten is uninterrupted dark brown, I think it'll be fine. The dark pink is Alley Cat sock in the colourway Raspberry Beret, the light pink is Alley Cat sock in Peeps colourway, the blue is Candy Skein's First Birthday colourway and the brown is Foot Loose from Diamond Yarns. If I've calculated correctly the second mitt should use up almost every last inch of those first two leftover yarns. Hurray for working from stash yarns!

Reviewing my list, I think the next project should be gloves but here's the problem: those patterns call for 1.75mm needles which I don't have. Shocking I know, since I would have guessed that I have several sets of every size. Out of curiosity I had a peak at the Black Thorn website and they do have 1.75mm needles in stock. But ... should I just order them? ... or should I order more sizes and save on shipping? Decisions, decisions!

LOVE the colours you have chosen, I love the turquoise and pink and they will look great against the brown of the rest of the glove.....I thought your last YOP socks were my favourite but this has just blown them out of sight!

I'm the worst decision maker ever....have you any more gaps in your needles...have you looked thru your projects? I'm sure it isn't the point and you're more organised than me....I went to start something last night and realised I didn't have DPNs for part of it....gutted!

LOVE! Way over my head/capabilities but you give me something to strive for. I wish there were just a certain number of hours that you could spend knitting anything and then you would automagically be granted more skills! LOL! In my dreams but a girl can hope.
I too try to figure it out so I get the most out of my shipping money but then I end up not ordering for days and having to wait longer...it's a no win. Thus, the reason for having lots of projects going at the same time and plenty waiting in the wings. That's my logic anyway! LOL! Happy knitting!

The cuff look beautiful, I think you are right, the plain hand will balance the colours nicely

Gorgeous colours and beautiful work :)

Have you decided on other patterns yet and if so do they have the requirement of needles you don't have? Nothing is more annoying then itching to start a pattern and not having the right needles!

I love the colours, they're so cheerful and, I think, better than the original!

I have the needles I need for my next project, just not the ones I truly want to make it work right...so I am purchasing new ones Friday...good luck whatever you decide....and as usual your project is truly breathtaking work...

Oh, order more sizes and save on shipping, for sure! ;) I am always full of good advice like that!
The mittens are divine and I like your colors much more than the one in the pattern.

I love your color choices - amazing what you have found in your stash. I always have the same dilemma when ordering supplies online. I try not to overdo it, but if there's something I think I'll need/want soon, I'll get them together to save on shipping.
