finished object Friday

a prickly pair

Hurray! They're done! And done right on time for a finished object Friday! The second Conwy sock is finished, ends woven in and none too soon. Not a fun knit at all thanks to an overspun yarn with way too much twist and a prickly pair of socks as a result :(

It's a shame because the colourway is so nice; puts me in mind of a certain Rugby team set to play a neighbouring rival team on the weekend. Here in Canada the game starts at 1am thanks to the time difference ... so should we put on a pot of strong coffee to stay up to watch it? Or should we nap a few hours before, set the alarm and wake for the few hours to watch it? Why was this kind of thing so much easier when we were teenagers?

If you have a few minutes they'd be well spent looking at the variety of finished object posts from Tami's Amis and celebrate with them. After all, the Australian bloggers might not feel like celebrating after the game this weekend. Go Springboks!

Oh wow, those are beautiful---the colours are so complex and look marvellous with the pattern, so it's doubly sad that they were hard to make and also prickly. :( I'm all for the "if you don't have anything nice to say..." philosophy, myself, but I think that issuing a warning on Ravelry about the difficulty you had with this yarn has a level of helpfulness that outweighs the negativity, you know?

Your socks are so pretty! I'm sorry you don't love them.

Would a good soak in some hair conditioner help? They LOOK fantastic.

As for your comment about why don't we have fancy buildings now? My guess? Too expensive and not many craftsmen are left anymore. Now they just slap up concrete and glass and call it a day.

That's disappointing that they're not softer, but those socks are so gorgeous I think they might deserve a second chance. The colorway is beautiful and the stitch pattern is too. Maybe a few washes would make a difference? Hair conditioner has worked for me, too.

It's a lovely color and like the others here have said they look great despite the problems you had making them!

the socks are lovely! I hope that with time and a couple of soaks maybe they will grow into a more wear-able pair.

They look great! What a shame that they weren't a happy knit. Do you think that they might soften up with wearing?
Good luck with the match!

Those are great socks. I agree with the others about giving it a good soak in hair conditioner. It's always worked for me.

Those look great. It's a shame you didn't enjoy making them at all. I hope there's some way to make them more comfortable.

It always a shame when you don't enjoy knitting something. But, the colour looks great. Well done for finishing them.
