Year of Projects: Helgi's Mitts 01

Folk Knitting in Estonia: Aino's Gloves • Anu's Christmas Gloves • Anu's Mittens • Anu's Stockings • Avo's Mittens • Ellen's Stockings • Helgi's Mittens • Hilja's Mittens • Ilmar's Socks • Juta's Stockings • Kalev's Mittens • Kristi's Mittens • Laila's Socks • Landra's Gloves • Liidia's Gloves • Liivi's Stockings • Maarja's Socks • Maimu's Mittens • Marko's Mittens • Meida's Mittens • Merike's Gloves • Rita's Stockings • Sander's Mittens • Tiit's Socks • Ulla's Gloves • Virve's Stockings

I hoped to show you a finished pic of Merike's Gloves but when I laid the right glove along side the left to compare the length of the index fingers I saw a mistake three fingers and several rows back. RIP!

With the gloves in time-out I then hoped to show you a good start on Helgi's Mittens. But my choice of yarns is no good - the variegated yarn is getting lost in the solid purple and the pattern is disappearing. RIP!

I'm almost afraid to try anything else today. Thank goodness Juta's Stockings were knit without incident. (The finished object post is here, if you missed it.) My plan for the rest of the evening is to put all knitting aside, grab my eReader and curl up in bed. Tomorrow is another day.

Don't get me wrong; aside from these knitting fails today was a very good day. Nancy and I went to a Fall Fibres show put on by the Guelph Guild of Handweavers and Spinners. Really enjoyable! Big thanks to Brenda Franklin for her very thorough demonstration of weaving with a rigid heddle loom and another lady who demonstrated bobbin lace techniques to us.

Well I like the red mittens in the top picture (and now I want to try and make a pair). Maybe you could try a yarn with a longer colour transition and see if that might not get lost as much.

Sometimes we just have to set the knitting aside and come back to it later. What are you reading?

oh no. I bet your needles just needed a day off. Those socks are beautiful, love the colour.

Bummer on having to rip back both mittens and I'd have done the same putting them on a time out and doing something other, hope you had a nice read all curled up and warm.

Well some weeks just seem to go like that, don't they! Hopefully no more ripping for some time now.

The demo sounds really interesting.

That's frustrating - I've total had knitting days like that!

OMGosh, I'm so sorry you've to do some rippin'. I don't blame you for wanting to take a nice, e-reader break.
That loom is so compact. It's pretty too! Your comment was so cute on my blog. I could feel your enthusiasm all the way here.

I had a very "rip-full" weekend too. Must be something in the moon ... bad knitting vibe.

I decided to stick with miles and miles of garter on Steve's blanket.

The gloves sure are pretty! Even if you DID have to frog back some.

I am in awe of anyone who knits gloves -- so much fiddling! I can't imagine ripping out all those fingers. You are such a determined knitter.

I love the red gloves. I have knit many, many, mitts but never gloves. Maybe this winter, maybe!

It's so annoying when everything you do seems to turn out badly, I sympathise! I hope they start behaving when they come out of time out!
