Tuesday - the first day of October, and the first day I could cast on Vorticity socks for the Socktopus KAL on Ravelry. So you know what I was doing at work on Tuesday; besides working, that is.
The pattern is tricky for two reasons - the stitch count per round changes depending on where you are in the repeat, and in two places the end of round moves. Lots of people have been thrown off. There has been quite an active discussion going on in the Ravelry group, with more than one member expressing confusion and frustration. Once you figure out how it works, the pattern's pretty simple and it works up quickly. I've finished three repeats of the leg - although I took the photo after two repeats - and have just 19 more rounds before I start the heel.
The yarn I'm using is from Wandering Cat Yarns - Twisted Top Cat MCN in a colourway called "Tidal". So far the subtle variegation is working up beautifully. I couldn't be more pleased. I've mentioned it before but it bears repeating: there's a Back to Socks KAL going on over at Wandering Cat Yarns on Ravelry... any pair of socks completed by October 31st with Wandering Cat Yarns and posted in the FO thread on Ravelry gives you an entry and a chance to win a surprise yarn pack. Last year I won a yarn pack and it was awesome!

Thanks for the heads up on the challenges. I had queued that pattern when you first wrote about it.
ReplyDeleteYours is working up beautifully.
nice looking sock so far! as always, i am very excited to see them when they are done.
ReplyDeleteI suppose that would drive me nuts, too. Then again, I'm used to just diving in and seeing how things go...so, perhaps, those would be perfect :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sock pattern.......not sure I could cope with the stitch count changing and the beginning of the round changing........slightly scary stuff, lol.
ReplyDeleteThis is my favorite pattern from the book. I even have a skein of gray yarn set aside for it. But it sounds like it's more tricky than I realized. I'll be seeing how it goes for you!
ReplyDeleteMakes me think of a kelp forest that sock. What things to keep in mind when workin' that pattern. Certainly a challenge and keepin' the intermediates & experienced on their toes!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sock and pattern and yarn!
ReplyDeletevery pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe pattern challenges make me think the sock is really is a vortex!
ReplyDeleteoxoxo
Vorticity looks great, the yarn reminds me of something to do with mermaids.
ReplyDeleteThose socks definitely look like a challenge. They will be a masterpiece when finished!
ReplyDeleteLooks way too complicated for me:) but the stitch pattern looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be so many awesome indie yarn producers or just small yarn producers around! Can't wait to try them ALL, hehe.
ReplyDeleteThose socks sounds really tricky, but yours look great you're doing a good job :)
The pattern sounds complicated, but is working up a treat :-)
ReplyDeleteI love a challenge, and this one is beautiful! Looks like it is time to que it up!
